Humans will perish in 31 years, warns latest climate change study Cities like Mumbai, Florida, Shanghai will be reduced to swamps, 90% of mankind will be annihilated, says report released ahead of World Environment Day…. Please take some time to read this report because all of our fate is at stake. We’re running out of time but it’s still not too late to change our trajectory but just like Jayda we are going to need to be ruthless about this change. We’ve got till 2050. That’s it—just… My eldest daughter just turned 18 yesterday. I couldn’t be a more poud Mamma. Now, her and I have somewhat of complicated relationship to put it mildy…and I know you Mamma’s of teenagers out there know exactly what I am talking about, right? My girlfriends and I have this subject on the menu as a regular at the brunch table. The realisation that I came to however is that my daughter and I are so alike in so many ways that we tend to rub each other up the wrong way all the time. That being said….she is a fierce eco warrior and active change maker and this makes me so proud. Proud of the fact that I had a hand in raising a Human Being that is not just all about herself. She wants to make a difference on this planet. A few years ago while walking on a beach in Edinburgh, our hometown, I asked her who she was and without hesitation she said the following. “Mom, I am a storyteller”. Well, she just got accepted to study cinematography at Sterling University and so I hope that Jayda will not only write an epic story with her life but that she will go ahead and tell stories to all of us that will make us change the current trajectory that we are on. Why do we need to STOP RESET GO. Why do we need to….
STOP supporting what we already know is not working, RESET our actions and align them with our hearts wisdom and GO towards the world we have all imagined is possibleAt the dinner table last night we were all laughing because Jayda’s Dad, being the incredibly proud Dad that he is wanted to buy Jayda a really special gift for her 18th Birthday. A gift that would last for many years to come and something she would cherish. In the run up to her birthday she revealed a need for a watch and so he decided he wanted to get her an 800 Pound watch according to how the story went. Now, Jayda flat out refused that and we all found this very strange and a tad ungrateful because which teenager would do that? Well, Jayda did because she said that she was thinking of the planet and the resources that was being used to create this 800 Pound time-piece. She would rather have a second hand watch so she could re-use what others didn’t want anymore. Now this sounds very strange but then she revealed that she was so concerned because according to her knowledge we as Humans were running out of time, fast. She threw a crazy timeline of 10 years out there as to when huge arreas of our planet would be under water because of the alarming rate at which the ice-caps were melting. Now, I tried to calm her down and tried to bring some wisdom on the subject but the truth is that most of us have very little knowledge as to what truly is the status of our fate with regards to this area. Most of the other people at the table didn’t even know what she was talking about. Those eco-warriors…you know the ones that just want to have a rant at every occassion…well..that’s probably how she seems to most people. But in all honestly…Jayda has a point and although she might have been a little over zealous and a little out with her timeline, she is not far wrong. The question is not why is Jayda so worked up about all of this but why are we not???
So, in my quest to do my part I decided to investigate and corroborate her claims with the facts….and low and behold in my inbox this morning I discover an article posted by one of my fellow change makers. ‘Humans will perish in 31 years, warns latest climate change study’. I love the fact that the Universe knows just what we need, when we need it. I’m so learning to trust this process.“We must never forget that we are in a unique situation with no precise historic analogue. The level of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere is now greater, and the Earth warmer than what human beings have ever experienced. And there are almost eight billion of us now living on this planet.” (This corroborates with the recent decision by a body of scientists to formally declare our era as the Anthropocene—a time when humans have a disproportionate impact on the environment) According to the study, we are marching towards an existential crisis at a much quicker trot than previously thought. It even questions the efficacy of the Paris Agreement that aims to cap global temperature rise to 3-5°C. That’s bad enough for disaster, the BNCCR says. “…3°C of warming already constitutes an existential risk,” says the study…’
